🔎 The Researcher — What is the job?

Researchers find investment ideas worth considering. Think of yourself as a detective: you dig through filings, news, and data until you know a company so well you could explain it to a 5th grader.

Your tasks:
  • Read the 10-K. It's the company's annual report. Skim the "Business" and "Risk Factors" sections first.
  • Build a 1-page pitch. Company → Product → How it makes money → Why buy now → Risks.
  • Compare to 2 competitors. How is this company different?
  • Present at the weekly meeting. Keep it to 3 minutes.
💰 The Investor — What is the job?

Investors take research and make real decisions. You're responsible for when we buy, how much, and when to sell.

Your tasks:
  • Review pitches. Ask hard questions. "What could make this wrong?"
  • Vote with the group. Final buys happen by majority.
  • Set position size. Never more than 20% of portfolio in one stock as beginners.
  • Execute the trade on our paper-trading platform.
  • Write a 3-line thesis in the Investments tab for every buy.
📊 The Market Analyst — What is the job?

Analysts track the big picture. Stocks don't move in a vacuum — interest rates, inflation, and sector trends matter.

Your tasks:
  • Weekly market brief. What happened in the S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow this week?
  • Watch earnings season. Alert the club when portfolio companies report.
  • Track Fed news. Rate hikes move everything.
  • Flag risk. If a sector looks shaky, say so.
📝 The Secretary — What is the job?

The Secretary is the club's memory. Without you, meetings vanish and good ideas get lost.

Your tasks:
  • Log every meeting in the Meeting Logs tab. Title, date, attendees, notes.
  • Take live notes during the meeting.
  • Send a 5-line recap to the group after meetings.
  • Track attendance.
  • Schedule next meeting before this one ends.
🏦 The Treasurer — What is the job?

The Treasurer owns the numbers. If the Investor decides and the Researcher discovers, the Treasurer measures.

Your tasks:
  • Log every trade in the Investments tab the day it happens.
  • Update prices weekly so returns stay current.
  • Compare to S&P 500. Use the Benchmark section of the Investments page.
  • Update Goals progress when goals are hit.
  • Report P&L at every meeting (win or lose — honesty matters).
👑 The President — What is the job?

The President sees everything, asks the hardest questions, and keeps the club moving.

Your tasks:
  • Review every group's work weekly.
  • Answer members' questions on the "Ask the President" tab.
  • Manage membership and funds on the protected President page.
  • Set the semester's theme / goals with the group.
🛡️ The Vice President — What is the job?

The Vice President is the President's right hand — same access, same responsibilities when the President can't be there.

Your tasks:
  • Step in for the President in any meeting they miss.
  • Help review every group's weekly work.
  • Co-answer questions on the "Ask the President" tab.
  • Share the load on managing roster, goals, and funds.
  • Access the Leadership control panel with your personal access code.

Members can research stocks, log trades, track goals, take meeting minutes, and see how the club's portfolio measures up against the S&P 500 — all without leaving one tab.

🧠 Cool Facts About the Site
Real-time markets
Stock prices sync live from Finnhub

The site fetches quotes directly from Finnhub's professional-grade market data API — the same data feed used by pro trading tools. Under the hood, if the API is unavailable, the site silently falls back to Yahoo Finance so your portfolio never goes stale.

Fully installable
Add to home screen like a real app

The site is a Progressive Web App. On iPhone: tap Share → Add to Home Screen. On Android: tap "Install" in Chrome. It opens fullscreen with the Bull & Bear icon, no browser bar. Feels like an app because it basically is one.
